Bright Pink Bride.

Perfect makeup on her wedding day means you don’t want to look overly made up. The rule of thumb is to enhance either your eyes or your lips, but not both at the same time. If you go for minimal eye makeup, do a bright pop of colour on the lips, but if you’re doing a smokier eye with a lot of drama, go for a softer lip colour.

A bright bold vibrant colour that I used on Louise’s wedding day was a MAC classic colour “Girl About Town” This beautiful bright pink, doesn’t look to overpowering and looks great on every bride.

Louise made pink a feature and added bright pink shoes and flowers to her outfit. She looked so beautiful, a wedding I will not forget.

Rachel’s Curly Wedding Hairstyle.

Curly wedding hairstyles are more popular than ever. Here’s how i created Rachel’s perfect curly wedding look.
Before the Wedding…
I recommend for Rachel to treat her hair…. Hair that’s healthy will naturally have less frizz and more shine. Trim the hair a few weeks before the wedding removing all dead ends. I recommends to have a deep conditioning treatment (an absolute must if your hair is naturally coarse or if it’s been heavily processed or colored).

The Morning Of…
I got Rachel to hold her hair upside down while i dryed her hair using a blow-dryer with a diffuser. “You can take advantage of the natural root lift and body this way,” To get the most out of curls, i straighed the hair first with the good old ghd’s.  Then the curling iron where needed..  I begain at the nape of the neck, picking up a small section of hair at a time. I wraped the section around the outside of the curling iron. I healed for a few seconds, then gently let go.  I alternate the direction of the curl’s and also the size of the sections so this give a much more natural look.
For some finishing touches i sprayed some super shine spray, to add a little more shin to Rachel’s locks. After a brief spritzing, I carefully run my fingers through the curls to separate them and make them look a bit more natural.

Ta-da! Rachel has her beautiful curly bridal wedding hair. xx

“Hi Gemma, Thanks again for all you did on my wedding day.   I had a lovely day, and looked my very best, Thanks to you.” All the best R x

Jo’s Wedding in France.

This was a wedding I was very much looking forward too for a long time.

Jo and her parter chose well for there fairytale wedding set in the beautiful Brantome, Southern France. The Chateau de la Cote was truly stunning, it was romantic with a rustic charm, feeling every inch a historical setting, ambits fields of sunflowers, it was so quiet and peaceful.

On Jo’s wedding day, I had Jo, her sister who was a bridesmaid and her Mum’s Hair and Makeup to do.  We started early so we didn’t have to rush and everyone could enjoy the morning set in Jo’s room which was attached to an amazing tower with the chateau, with a private terrace, four poster bed and views to die for overlooking the picturesque land and abundant sunflowers all around. A picture perfect setting, people would envy.

I first started with Jo’s hair, setting her hair in curler’s,  Then cleaning/moisturising her skin. Once this was done Jo took some time to enjoying some breakfast with her mum which the frantic staff at the chateau had just brought up.
My attention was then on Jo’s beautiful sister’s hair and makeup. Hair which was swept to the side and pinned up creating a very natural curly bun, makeup was glamourous with deep purple eyes, lots of lacers, flawless skin and nude lips. The focus was keep to the eyes choosing deep purple to go with the stunning bridesmaids dresses Jo had chosen.

Jo’s mum was kept natural using grey/pink coral eyeshadows on the eyes, again lots of individual lacers were applied.  The sun was starting to bee into the room, powder was heavily added, and fix spray was needed so the skin wouldn’t shine whilst the photographer was taking pictures. Jo’s mum’s hair was blow dried with lots of body and height, she had a very glamourous hat, but when she was to take it off she didn’t want a flat head of hair, so lots of hair spay was needed.

Jo’s makeup was kept very clean and natural,  primer, mineral foundation, and powder was all that was needed.  Jo wanted her eyes to be the focal point, but still wanting to keep the whole look quick simple and natural. A thin gel, brown/black liner was applied with two layers of individual dark brown lashes. Individual lashes are great as you can make the lashes as thick and full as your bride wants. Jo kept saying a couple more, so i think i probably used a whole pack in the end. “Fluttering her lashes to the photographer”.  Jo’s hair was swept to the back of the head creating a loss wavy bun, hair pieces were added to make the hair look fuller and thicker. Jo had beautiful head pieces which was added to finish the whole look.
Hair up was the best option as the day started to warm up. Jo would of been far to hot with hair on her back and neck.

Time was starting to tick on, so everyone started getting into there dresses, champagne was pooping and tears of joy were shared with mum/dad and Jo. Jo looked so so beautiful in her dress. A beautiful day which will never be forgotten by all. xx

Boho Brides.

Boho Bridal Hair.

Tumbling Curls are a must for a boho bride, soft curls tumbling over the shoulder. This is very pre-Raphaelite and very beautiful, elegant, simple and classic.

My top 5 steps to shining like silk.

* Hide your hairdryer six weeks before your wedding you’ll soon see the difference in shine and condition to your hair.

* Always use conditioner after shampooing your hair this will re-seal the surface cuticle and up the shine.

* Have a trim every six to eight weeks to stop those split ends.

* Always use a pro saw-cut comb, plastic ones will tear the hair.

* Use intensive treatment this will reduce breakage and stop expensive colour fading.

Rock ‘n Roll Bride x

Claire’s Rock ‘n Roll Bridal Makeup story.

Here are my make-up tips for Claire’s big Rock ‘n Roll Wedding Day!

The most important thing for any bride is to have the perfect makeup with long lasting superhero staying power and all day photo-perfect skin/makeup.    You don’t have to worry about topping up your make-up throughout the day. I always say to my brides that fresh make-up starts with your skin. I cleansed Claire’s skin and then moisturized and left it for a few minutes to sink in. Next, I applied the primer, this helps the make-up hold and lasts all day.  For the foundation I applied small amounts to the face using a make-up brush to get even coverage.   Concealer was then applied to get rid of any unwanted shadows/blemishes using a small brush.  All that was finally needed  was a little dusting of translucent powder across the face using a large soft brush, this is essential for setting the foundation and concealer.

Now for Claire’s Rock ‘n Roll Eye Makeup…

Claire’s vision was to have big dramatic smokey eyes to make her amazing green eyes a real feature.  To get this desired affect I applied a mixture of black and grey tones.  The tip is to  sweep the lightest shade across the entire area from lash line to brow. This serves as a base, then I applied the darker shade on the lower part of the lid to create depth.  Claire  wanted to accentuate her lashes for a bold look, so I applied individual eyelash extensions to give a fuller appearance.  I locked the eye make-up in place, by brushing a thin layer of long lasting shadow over Claire’s eyelids.  To up the drama, I applied a couple of layers of water resistant eye liner around the eye and smudged it in place using a grey eye shadow with a small brush.  Another tip to all brides, is to make sure you wear waterproof mascara, because you never know, it can be a pretty emotional day…

Claire’s cheeks and lips…

I added a very natural colour to Claire’s cheeks.  A natural simple pink/cream lip gloss, which is easy enough to top up during the day.  After the endless amount of guests she would be kissing and not to mention a couple of glasses of champagne, she will need to!!

A little quick spray of makeup fix to Claire’s face to seal and hold the makeup for the day…..  Claire was now looking the rock and roll bride she always dreamt about…. xx

Jo’s Wedding in Italy x

Jo’s truly beautiful wedding day was set in the stunning Amalfi Western coast line of Itlay.  An ideal spot for a glamourous laid-back special celebration, this really was one of the most beautiful settings I think i’ve ever had the chance to work upon.

It’s all about Jo’s wedding….

The Trial,
At  Jo’s  trial she was so organised, showing me an array of images from some magazine cut outs/internet shots, Jo had a strong idea of what she wanted her hair to look like, similar to Amanda Holden off Britain’s Got Talent, I now had an image to work from, which was a natural/loose waved side bun. With the amount of hair that Jo had this look wouldn’t be be possible with out the help of hair pieces and hair foam.  We also had to take into account that the wedding was taking place in the sensational hot sun of Italy, so humidity/heat was going to play a big part in deciding what makeup/hair products I was going to use.
Regarding Jo’s makeup she wanted a sun kissed flawless glowing skin, enhancing her natural and beautiful feature.  This was great way to bring out Jo’s big blue eyes, as the brownish ocular in the bronzer would really highlight her eye colour.
We took our time and went thought everything together making sure we were both 100% happy with colours/product and techniques.  As for Jo’s hair a foam piece and hair pieces were essential in being able to create the look she desired, this had to be made after the trial as hair pieces would have to be attached to the form and sown into place. I would then weave Jo’s natural hair around this so no joins or hair pieces/foam were visible. I had to take a little cutting of Jo’s hair, so i was 100% confidence in finding the closest colour match.

Arrive in Italy for the wedding,
I got to Italy the day before the wedding, so got the chance to meet Jo and her lovely family/friends before the big day and also enabled Jo and I to catch up on any possible last minute alterations Jo wanted me to make. I had to have another mini trial with Jo just to check that her hair foam I made fitted well, and the hair pieces were a good match, everything fitted perfectly and Jo was happy, which was the most important thing.  I  could now relax for the day by the pool in the gorgeous hot sun until her big day tomorrow.

The big day of the wedding had arrived it was another beautiful hot sunny day, Thank god for the air con!!!! Everyone was so exited and happy the big day was finally here. After I had finished Jo’s Mum’s hair I went and joined Jo in her amazing big granite stoned room, the dress was hung up just waiting to be shown to her awaiting groom.

My Top steps/products in creating Jo’s Amanda Holden’s wedding bun.

- Leave the top section loose, and add a little shine serum to the hair, which will also prevent fly aways, which is a must on the coast line.
Next brush the hair back into a ponytail.

- For thin hair add a foam hair piece. I added hair pieces over the foam and hair pieces around to make Jo’s hair look fuller/healthier and thicker.
This is a picture of what it looked like before adding it into Jo’s hair.

- I then covered the sponge hair ring with Jo’s own hair taking sections at a time and spraying  each section as I you go. This way the hair would look natural with a texture the way Jo wanted.
A great hair spray with extreme holding power and with a great smell is:  Ojon Extreme Hold Hairspray £24, its full of strengthening ingredients but the best bit is it smells of caramel not hairspray.

- Keep all ends of the hair pieces under the hair bun so they are not visible to the eye.

My Top steps/products in creating Jo’s sun kissed flawless radiant glowing makeup.

A natural looking glowing skin, needs highlighting on the nose and cheeks, this is where the sun first hits the face.

- Start with clean, moisturised and prime the skin.

- I mixed a liquid bronzer with foundation and applied to the face and down the neck, to create a nature looking bronzed skin.

- Apply bronzing powder and apply right underneath the cheekbones, and then add a little pink blush colour on the apple of the cheeks, blending this into the brazier. Apply brazier underneath the jaw and a little down the neck to create a natural look. Blend the remaining bronzer from the brush, to the temples and blend upwards towards the forehead.

- I then applied a light shimmer shadow in gold, with a brown liner.

- Jo’s lips were kept simple with a warm pink/gold lip gloss, and lots of it.

Hello Gemma,

“Emma’s Wedding”

Emma wanted a effortless looking half up half down do with her hair. and a minimal yet flawless look to her makeup. Emma wedding was set in Nonsuch Mansion in Surrey, a fresh, fun super modern English wedding, with her bridesmaids wearing a bright eye popping pinks.

With Emma’s hair height is always very flattering so i piled her hair up, softly with a few tendrils escaping. Using tongs to create soft nature looking curls, secured them with spray.

Controlled with John Frizz-Ease £5.99

Emma didn’t want the fuss of a veil or tiara, she decide to add interest with a lovly hair piece from Yarwood White, which i wove Emma’s beautiful golden locks around.

With Emmas makeup it was kept fresh and flawless, her brow bones were highlighted with a soft matt white shadow to bring attention to her eyes. with a thin flewide liner using an angled brush and indival lashers, for a little more flutter to her lashers.

To give Emma a natural looking pout, i used a liner close to her lip colour on her entire mouth.

Testimonial from Emma.

“Hi Gemma, Hope you are well. Thought I would send you some photos of your handy work form my wedding.
Thanks again for doing an amazing job, I had so many great comments about the hair and make up I just wish I could look that good every day!”

“Becks Special Day.”

“Becks Special Wedding Day set in the Beautiful countryside of Bath in Somerset”

Beck had “Glamour” in mind so we decided to go for a classic smoky eye, with flawless skin and keeping the lips and cheeks very warm and nude. Giving her hair a Super Glam Wavy.

Creating Beck’s Makeup look….
I find the easiest way to create a smokey eye is to use cream based eyeshadow, as the grease in them will bleed almost immediately. I love MAC’s selection they have almost every shade you can image.
Finish the look off with heaps of black kohl inside the eye and lashings of mascara.

Everyone wants that perfect smooth flawless skin finish.
I find skin primers make all the differences, not only do they help makeup last longer they also help give a smoother appearance to the skin surface.

My Fav
No7 Colour Calming Primer, which is a multi-tasking as it helps with any unwanted redness to the skin. £10.75

Now on to Becks Super Glam Wavy.

I first dryed becks Hair with a round brush to create volume. Then I curled the hair in sections with a large-barreled tongs. Creating a surper-chic, bed-head look.

I always recommend brides to use a Hair Mask a week before there big day, which becks did and she said she noticed the difference. My fav Hair mask at the moment is “Schwarzkopf Professional Seah Hairspa Cashmere Mask”.  I personal keep my hair mask on overnight for a real moisture boost….  hair will feel glossier and will reduce damage from heated styling tools.

From Beck “Gemma you were an absolute magician on my wedding day, I just had to write and thank you so much for all your hard work on my very special day. My Hair and makeup was exactly as I imaged and lasted all day. I loved my eye makeup and my lashers looked so natural! “Wish I could look like that every day” I don’t know what I would have done with out you, you were so relaxed and charming and put my nerves at ease, at least for a couple of hours anyway. Big Thank you.  Lots of love.   Becks x “
