Warm sunshine, fresh salty air and crashing waves, may be a beautify setting to get married or have an engagement shoot but remember theses top tips to keep your makeup looking beautiful.

Lady’s a must read for top beach makeup tips.

1- Salty air causes excessive water loss from your skin. To avoid dry skin drink plenty of water to minmize dehydration. For smooth skin of the day of your shoot or wedding day remember to tone and mosturize your skin well.

2- Blusher and bronzer should be matt, save the shimmer for the cheek bones, as the refection of the water and sun will hit this area of your face.

3- A foundation is so important and must be able to stand humidity and must have a high SPF in it – If you have oil prone skin use a matt cream foundation, if you have normal to dry skin use a liquid foundation to achieve a more hydrated glow.

4- For the humid, have some blot films close to hand. This will blot away any excess oil and sweet

5- Sunlight illuminates flaws far more than indoor lighting does. Extra care is needed to cover blemishes use a matte concealer.

6- Remember to blend blend blend your makeup using blending brushers this will ensure that your makeup looks smooth and natural, even in the brightest of lights.

7- A matt lipstick is more likely to stay put in the sun. A gloss will just melt and shine.

8- A good waterproof mascara is a must – eyelashes can be added to create a fuller look.

My top tips on how to do your own doll look makeup.

All about the dolls eyes: Apply a thin line of black eyeliner on your models upper lash line. The closest to your lashes the better. Do not put any eyeliner to the side of your eyes, and try to avoid adding eyeliner near the inside corner of your eye. In the inside corner add some white eyeliner mixed with a white eyeshadow to soften add some shimmer on top. The white should go on the inside corner, and go underneath your eye to where the colour in your models eye begins when you stare straight at her.

With the black liquid eyeliner, draw another thin line of eyeliner, but this time on the bottom lashes. Allow the line to go all the way until it meets with the white eyeliner. If you’re using liquid, let it dry before continuing.

Add eyelashes to the top and bottom of the black liner, the more lashers the better.

Add a pick or light red to the cheeks. using a cream plush with a shimmer power on top.

With the lips apply a medium to dark red/purple colour, downward in a straight line in the center of your lips. Then repeat drawing a line of the left side, and then again on the right. Your lips should look like you are pouting. The colour should only be in the middle.

Brides too be……  Its official – The Beehive is back!!!  Wear yours tall and proud.  Keep the structure neat, high and solid and you’ll be turning plenty of heads.

Here’s how to create the perfect bridal beehive.

STEP ONE
Prepare the hair by sectioning off the back part of the hair, leaving the sides free.

STEP TWO
Pin the back section up out of the way for now.  We’ll leave the ‘hiving’ to last.

STEP THREE
Take the side sections of your hair and roll inwards to form the french pleat.  Be sure to use lots of hair pins to hold in place.

STEP FOUR
Backcomb the front section, the more backcombing the bigger the beehive.  Once you’ve sufficiently backcombed, gently brush back the front of the hair and fix using a strong hairspray.  Ta dah the perfect bridal beehive.

It all starts with the ultimate base.
Foundation always looks more natural on clear, freshly moisturised skin. I always use a moisturiser with a SPF15 – higher if the bride is getting married abroad.
Smooth on a primer as this will even out your skin tone and will help your makeup last longer.

On this shoot i used a liquid foundation with light-reflecting particles, which is idea for brides as it creates gorgeous luminous skin.
Concealer is then applied where needed.
powder maximises the staying power of the makeup by setting your base and controlling the shine.

The ultimate brow is so important to frame your face and eyes.
I draw the ideal shape using shadow, then tweeze both brows alternately. As a quick guide, your eyebrows should start in line with your eyes and the highest point of the arch should be above the outer edge of your iris. This should end where an imaginary line would meet from the side of your nose diagonally to the outer corner of your eye and upwards. i used an eyebrow powder to then fill in any gaps and to add definition.

This shoot i wanted to keep the eye makeup as natural as possible, whilst making the eyes the focal point. I used gold/pink undertones and blended the colour to the outer corners. Liquid liner was then added which adds definition to the upper layers.

Mascara was then applied – remember to use water proof mascara even if your not a cry baby by nature, it is still a good idea-just in case your eyes do water or you touch your eyes for some reason.

I applied individual false eyelashes to all the models on this shoot – they make such a difference to your eyes. Apply them using tweezers no further along than two-thirds from the outer edge.

Lip were kept natural l like to use a cream blush – this way the cheeks and lips are the same colour.

When Donna Crain asked me to do a photo shoot with some of her glamour’s vintage head pieces, set in the beautiful Chateau featured in Vogue magazine set the South of France I literally jumped at the chance. xx

The shoot was styled by the very talented Sonia from “Want That Wedding” and my very favorite vintage wedding photographer David Wickham from “Modern Vintage Weddings”.

Sonia style the shoot using a shabby chic style look and feel set in the 1930′s with a modern edge.  She dressed our beautiful model Kathryn in some stunning dresses by Sabrina Motasem.

‘On arrival at Chateau Les Carrasses in Languedoc Roussillon we were absolutely blown away! I must admit, I didn’t quite know what to expect as pictures don’t often give a place justice. Les Carrasses was incredibly sophisticated and chic and brimming with a treasure trove of beautiful nick nacks which the lovely people there let us raid’

Makeup:

From the mid thirties  women prefered ivory and blue tones A color – as natural as possible – with an easy bright pink undertone.
The eyebrows were plucked thin or shaved off entirely. Then the eyebrows were drawn on with an eyebrow pencil.
Up to the middle of the thirties most popular lipstick colors were light rose, raspberry tones, chinese red and orange tones. In the later 30s primarily bright red tones.
I kept to the 1930′s basic image and just gave it a modern edge. The eye makeup was a little brighter with a softer edge. Lots of lashers were added with a modern thick flick black eyeliner, with beautiful rosey pick chicks and lips.

Hair:

Pin curls came in fashion in the 1920s to 40s.  it is amazing how this art of styling hair has remained famous after so many years. I wanted Kathryn’s hair to be a detailed chic style hairdo to go with Donna Crains hair pieces. I kept with the team of the 30′s but gave it a bit more of a doll like shabby chic bride look and feel, A 1930′s bride who has just popped out of a magazine.

Lots of wax gel and hair pieces were needed for this look, i also spayed the hair lightly with a silver hair spray to give it a little more art deco interest.

Donna specialises in bridal headbands using the finest vintage gems, carefully chosen and restored, quality fresh water pears and Swarovski peals from around the world, making them the perfect accessory for any bride-to-be.

Last week I had a client shoot -  Sophie Harley,  A creative jewellery designer to the star’s.  I was honoured to collaborate with such a talented artist and was in heaven when I stepped into her amazing workshop studio in London.

Sophie Harley is celebrated through out the world for her exquisitely designed handmade jewellery. Sophie has a huge following including Joss Stone, Jerry Hall, Judi Dench, Colin Firth, Kate Beckinsale and Naomi Campbell with recent features in the James Bond Films, Casino Royal and the Quantum of Solace.  You can image how extremely excited I was in being asked to design the hair and make-up on a high fashion/creative shoot  showcasing her incredible new collection.   The team involved was creative photographer Jo de Banzie beautiful model Katy McGee who i’ve had the pleasure of working with a number of times. Stylist Vintage Couture by Jane Bourvis, plus not forgetting myself for the hair and make-up designs.

We had two looks to create during the day, therefore two different changes of hair and make-up was required with timing and preparation essential.  The first shoot was on location which was a very dreamy soft look and feel with a big bridal dress.  The make-up was kept quite soft with the focus on the eyes.  I used a very heavy silver paint from Charles Fox and then added lilac/purple eye shadows, Mac/Shu uemura to create a more smokey effect to the eye.  I applied lots of individual eyelashes which always works well on camera and blocked half of Katy’s eyebrow using Cini-Wax. The silver colouring was carried form Katy’s cheekbones through the hair using a silver hair spray giving a more interesting look and feel to the make-up.

The second look was on location in a studio with a back-drop of brick stone.  The look and feel was very golden/warm and extremely expensive.
I blocked the eyebrows with Cini-Wax Charles Fox and brushed through with clear brow mascara on the eyebrow until flat (making sure the hair was going in the same direction).
I created a really heavy smokey black eye using MAC Black track blending from the lashes to the socket, also blending the the smoky eye using camouflage pigment by JackyMac and then added the gold leaf onto of the eye shadow and up on the brow bone, using more camouflage pigment to blend in everything and soften the look.  I finally added highlighter in the inner of the eyes using Pearl by JackyMac and highlighted the top of the cheek bones in the same way, adding silver hair spray through the hair and silver face paint by Charles Fox under the cheek bone.  Lips were a  little bit of a MIX using  Limecrime “Styletto” and “D’lilac and MAC Cyber, to get the perfect deep colour.

It was such a fun day shooting. Jo de banzie worked her creative magic with the camera, Katy is always a joy to work with and I think between us we show cased Sophie new collection really well. xx
